Residential Homes
Irene Wortham Residential Center, Inc. has three residential homes that are licensed as Intermediate Care Facilities for persons with intellectual and co-existing developmental disorders. Our 24 residents receive comprehensive, around-the-clock individualized care from expertly trained staff.
The IWC Residential Homes
Irene Wortham Center has three residential homes—Rose Street, Dogwood, and Azalea. These homes serve consumers—childhood through adulthood—who have a wide variety of care and support needs.
IWC residents participate in on-campus events and off-campus outings. They enjoy visiting parks for afternoon picnics, exploring the WNC Nature Center, and other attractions around Asheville. Residents celebrate life’s milestones with parties for birthdays and graduations. Summer provides an opportunity for outdoor gatherings like barbeques, and water play days are a cool way to beat the heat.
At IWC, we believe in the power of family and its positive effects on helping individuals achieve their full potential. Family members, friends, and guardians are encouraged and welcomed to visit their loved ones any time.
Alternative Family Living
Seeing the need for supporting an individual’s maximum independence, Irene Wortham Center expanded its programs offerings to include Alternative Family Living in 2018. This program provides for individuals to live in a home setting and make their independent choices in daily living.
